Get credit for drawing comics! Portland Community College is offering a studio comics course this summer, as part of their Summer Arts Institute. Welcoming comics enthusiasts of all kinds, young and old, amateur and professional, this class explores the process and techniques for creating comic art with pen and ink.

Through analysis of character design, iconography, expression, gesture, modeling, virtual camera and layout, students develop graphic communication skills used in comic strips, storyboards and graphic novels. Critiques and collaborative exercises improve creative problem-solving, with a focus on personal artistic vision. Taught by Jesse Reklaw, award-winning creator of Slow Wave, published in the Portland Mercury and ten other newspapers nationally.
